Past

I have had the opportunity, challenge and delight to design products and features across verticals; Microsoft Learning, Microsoft Health, training for companies like Deloitte and Touche, AutoDesk, ManPower and Boeing, as well as design for Science and Technology in the 3D space. You can see some of this work in Samples.

The greatest rewards have come from not only building products but building teams and processes. For example; when I started at Microsoft in 1996 Learning was just an idea that the Press division might add an “electronic” offering. Over my time there my design team grew from 1 to over 20. Our product line expanded to include not only end user education but IT and Dev as well.

When I joined Microsoft Health we were in Research but went on to become a P & L Division of our own. We built a platform, HealthVault web app, and its companion HealthVault Connection Center. The idea was to bring healthcare to the individual to own. This later evolved into a joint venture with GE and became the company Caradigm. You can see some work from this in Today.

To get started let’s look at an HVCC Story

Microsoft HealthVault Connection Center (HVCC) is a desktop app that allows users to upload device and medical imaging data to their Microsoft HealthVault account.

As the principle UX Designer on this project I iterated this application through several releases and worked with the Windows 8 team on their Devices story. Steps included defining personas, collaborating on requirements, creating flow diagrams and wire frames, prototyping and running usability studies, visual design and collaboration with dev to get the app built.

To illustrate the processes, methods and assets I have used throughout my career as a Product Designer let’s explore the design process used for HVCC. Let’s look at this through the lens of Sabrina’s story…
